National Chamber Hosts the Ambassador of Cuba
The Ambassador of Cuba H.E. Florentino Batista will be the Special Guest Speaker at a session on “Bilateral Trade between Sri Lanka and Cuba “ on Tuesday 26 May 2015 from 3.00 p.m to 4.30 p.m at the Chamber Auditorium No 450 D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo . He will speak on the current business trend, trade potential, opportunities for export, import, investment/ and other services available in Cuba. There will also be an interactive session where the participants will get an opportunity to interact with the Ambassador.
Cuba is the largest Caribbean island , spans 44,200 miles and cloaked in colonial charm with nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a population of 11.2 million residents, is a country waiting to be explored….Cuba is interested in foreign investment, hotels and tourism .The main industries of Cuba are food production and industrial products/medical /pharmaceutical, biotechnology . Exports are sugar, nickel, seafood, citrus, tobacco products and rum. Cuba has tobacco farming which contributes to economic growth. Cuba has a high literacy rate of 99.8 percent., the second highest literacy rate in the world. The Cuban government spends ten percent of their central budget on education, making it free for all at every level, including all materials such as books and uniforms. Cuba has 47 universities with 112,000 citizens enroll. Due to the free education system, the cities are becoming filled with people pursuing higher education.
