The National Chamber conducted the session on “Bilateral Trade & Investment between Bangladesh & Sri Lanka” on 24 November 2022 at the National Chamber Auditorium with a large gathering of business community, government officials.

Mr. Nandika Buddhipala, President of the National Chamber welcomed the High Commissioner His Excellency Tareq Md Ariful Islam, Mr. Md. Reyad Hossain – Counsellor (Political) and Mr. Md. Nizamul Islam – Third Secretary of Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka, Mr. Najith Meemanage – President – Sri Lanka Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SLBCCI) in Bangladesh, Mr. Rizwan Rahman – President – Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, special Invitees from EDB, BOI, NEDA, IMED, Media Organizations and the Business community who attended to the event and briefed about the economic background in Bangladesh and Trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.

Mr. Najith Meemanage – President – Sri Lanka Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SLBCCI) in Bangladesh addressed the gathering and briefed the business possibilities in Bangladesh for Sri Lankan Companies.

Mr. Rizwan Rahman – President – Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry was also connected virtually and addressed the gathering and stated that business to business interaction between the two Countries should go further.

Speaking to the gathering the Guest Speaker of the event, His Excellency Tareq Md Ariful Islam the High Commissioner of Bangladesh shared information on Bangladesh Sri Lanka bilateral trade; Sri Lankan investment in Bangladesh; Economic indicators; Potential sectors for collaboration between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka such as readymade garments; information technology; pharmaceutical; health care & medical equipment; light engineering; agro food processing; leather & footwear; construction materials; energy sector; FMCG & retail; tourism; supply chain & logistics;, financial sector; tea industry; Bilateral mechanism under consideration such as Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), Agreement on Coastal Shipping, SOP on the Feeder Services between Chattogram and Colombo, Agreement on Tourism, Custom cooperation agreement, Investment Promotion agreement etc.

The participants had an opportunity to have a close dialogue with the Bangladesh High Commissioner in Sri Lanka and his officials.
